The School Council at St Nicholas is a democratically elected group of pupils, one boy and one girl from each year group who represent their peers and enable pupils to become partners in their own education, making a positive contribution to the school ethos and environment.
The School Council provides a basis for the active learning of important life skills, such as speaking and listening skills, teamwork, emotional literacy, problem-solving, moral reasoning skills, self-esteem and self confidence. The School Council provides a dynamic foundation for learning about citizenship. It enables pupils to have a voice and to understand that their opinions count and that they can make changes happen in school.
At St Nicholas the School Council have worked towards planning a new junior playground, made changes to lunchtime systems and helped to introduce and maintain healthy eating. They were also consulted on the new toilets and helped to pick the designs. The School Council have met with the Extended Schools Co-ordinator to discuss the needs of pupils in the Sutton Coldfield area.
The School Council is co-ordinated by Miss Green.
